BOOBIE NITES raises $18,000!
Century 21’s Fundraiser for Mammography and Chemotherapy was a hit! Dozens of volunteers and Century 21’s amazing staff threw a party to remember!
490 people came out to the Kenora Curling Club on June 5th to help raise funds for the Lake of the Woods District Hospital Foundation. The funds raised will be used to help purchase a new Mammography machine which will cost well beyond $600,000.
Attendees were entertained by Big Boogaloo and David Caissy who kept the dance floor hopping from beginning to end playing crowd favorites and some of their own songs.
We are so fortunate to have this kind of talent in our town. Big Boogaloo plays various charitable events around town, so make sure you get to hear them at least once! David Caissy and his wife have a studio also in town and are prepared to record you or your band!
To further entertain guests, Recreational Properties Realtor, Donny Booth ran Minnow Races at the back of the club. $5.00 per minnow with 4 racers and the winner received $10.00.
T-shirts were on sale most of the night, and the bar was serving up the regular stuff plus pink hard lemonade. The silent auction was packed with great prizes donated by generous sponsors in the area. .
The Dragon Tamers Dragonboat team were on site before their trip to Peterborough selling tickets for a beautiful quilt made by one of their own in memory of Marie Titley, a Dragon Tamer who passed away recently.
The Hospital Foundation would like to sincerely thank all those who came out to the event as well as all the volunteers and organizers. We’ve received so many wonderful comments and thanks for a great evening. We’re hoping to make this happen again next year and have had people volunteer their time already!

Kenora Legion steps up for Health once again!
Once again, the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #12 in Kenora has helped us fund important medical equipment for the Hospital. This time it was $10,000 for the purchase of a new Telemedicine System.
Telemedicine allows patients to visit with physicians live over video for immediate care or capture video/still images and patient data are stored and sent to physicians for diagnosis and follow-up treatment at a later time.
If you’d like to learn more about Telemedicine, please click here to link to Telemedicine.com.
Because we live in a small community with little access to specialists, Telemedicine really is an invaluable technology to us, and will save us and our patients a lot of money in travel costs.
A huge ‘THANK YOU’ goes to the Legion for helping to make this purchase possible so quickly.

Kenora Kinsmen Stand Strong Behind the Hospital, and the Community
The Kinsmen Club of Kenora has generously donated $10,000 towards our Capital Infrastructure Project, moving us closer to our $490,000 committment to the Hospital. The Kinsmen are a wonderful group of community volunteers whose goal is to enhance the quality of life in their communities by promoting service, fellowship, positive values and national pride.
The Lake of the Woods District Hospital Foundation’s “Healthy Hospital, Healthy Community” Campaign is aiming to raise $490,000. This achievement leverages the balance of funding from the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long Term Care to complete the $4.9 million dollar project.
The project includes roof replacements, renovations to the surgical suite, medical gas capacity increase, nursing call & communication systems and the replacement of an emergency power generator. Some of these projects have been started and completed, but there is still a lot of work to be done.
The Lake of the Woods District Hospital Foundation is hoping to achieve our 10% fundraising goal by the end of this summer. We’ll need your help to get us there!
We would like to thank all of the volunteers who are part of the Kinsmen and all those who donate towards them to help make our community a great place to live, work and play.

PCR Analyzer Reduces Isolation Times!
The Lake of the Woods District Hospital has received the PCR Analyzer they purchased with funds generated through the Hospital Foundation! The Analyzer is set up and is being put to work in the Hospital’s Lab.
The PCR Analyzer is beneficial to our hospital and our community as it will reduce waiting times for test results and assist with our infection control program. For a complete description of what a PCR Analyzer is, and what it can do for us, please click here to link to the note on our Facebook page.
Laboratory Manager, Tanya Knopf, says that this technology is really going to take off in the near future, and she can see that the hospital may be able to use this piece of equipment for further tests and applications.
We’re really excited about it! Thanks to everyone who made contributions, we wouldn’t be able to do any of this without the support of the community and surrounding areas.

Kenora Lions See Us Through Another Purchase!
The Kenora Lake of the Woods Lions Club has presented the Foundation with the final installment for the purchase of an Ultra Sonic Washer for use in Cataract Surgeries at the Lake of the Woods District Hospital.
These highly advanced washers use super pure water recirculation to reduce water consumption by up to 70% compared to conventional washers. The benefit of an Ultrasonic Washer to cataract surgery is its ability to clean the delicate intstruments used in the surgery using small vibrations, without causing damage.
This new washer will be safer and and easier to use than the current model, which is approximately 15 years old. Staff in our CSR department are looking forward to putting the new washer to use.
