True Friendship – One of Life’s Greatest Gifts

Shannon Lucas of Laughing Moon Creations called us with a touching story and generous donation.

Sadly, Shannon lost a friend to Breast Cancer last year, motivating her to create earrings and sell them, donating the profits to the centre at which her friend was treated. This year, Shannon did the same thing for her friend Lisa, who beat Breast Cancer. She was able to sell $1500.00 more, enabling her to make a donation of $2055.50 to our Hospital in honor of Lisa.

Shannon’s efforts and generosity are truly appreciated, and her donation has been added to our Cancer Care fund where it will be used to help purchase important equipment and supplies to keep the hospital current with new technology.

Thank You, Shannon for your generous donation, kind heart and for being a true friend.

We encourage everyone to do what they can to help find a cure for the many cancers that have taken so many loved ones from our lives. This type of fundraising is a great way to remember or honor someone who has battled Cancer, or the many other diseases that we’ve yet to find a cure for.

14th Annual MNP Hospital Foundation Charity Golf Classic!

The 14th Annual Meyers Norris Penny / Hospital Foundation Charity Golf Classic is coming!

Save the Dates and Invites have been sent out, and our team list is full of local golfers and seasonal residents. As always, we filled up fast and are constructing a wait-list for interested persons. Wait-listed golfers should know that they may be contacted to golf as late as the day of the tournament.

Tree of Life Campaign raises $37,835.00!

This Year’s Tree of Life Campaign has been a resounding success, raising $37,835.00 to date, surpassing our goal of $35,000! Our Grand total so far, including the work Lake of the Woods Electric, Kenora Hydro, United Rentals and Godbout’s Towing did for us and the CJRL Radio Ads is $50,770.15!

Our sincerest ‘Thanks’ go out to all of you who purchased bulbs to light up our tree. The loved ones you are remembering with these purchases are lighting up the night into the New Year.

Thanks are also due to our wonderful sponsors and Peter & Branden Chevrefils, who enabled us to display our Christmas figures on the Greenbelt.

Your generosity is amazing. We can’t do any of this without you.

Foundation awarded $10,000 Grant from Kenora Legion

The Lake of the Woods District Hospital District Hospital Foundation received a $10,000 Grant from the Royal Canadian Legion, Brach #12 in Kenora. The money will be put towards a new PCR Analyzer and came at a good time, as the analyzer came in at about $10,000 more than expected.

There are many grants available to Non-Profit Organizations such as the Hospital Foundation. The Royal Canadian Legion is one of the groups that supports their community this way. Legion members support the grant and fundraising is done through Bingos and Nevada Ticket sales. The Royal Canadian Legion is a Licensed Charitable Organization who uses their funds to give back to the community. The Legion has a list of other Charitable Organizations they can donate to, and fortunately, the Hospital Foundation is one of them.

Our cause is ongoing and we truly appreciate any and all donations made to the foundation.

Thank You, Jerry Lava, Grant Burrows and all of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #12 members for selecting the Lake of the Woods District Hospital Foundation as the recipient of this Grant. We look forward to working with you again and giving back where we can.

3rd Floor Staff Grateful for New Recliner

 Paula and Barry Jackson of Fort Frances, Ontario have generously donated a new reclining chair for use on the third floor.

The floor has a few recliners already and they are used for family/visitors as well as for patients who cannot sleep comfortably in a bed. Paula and Barry’s grandparents were  patients on the third floor before they passed, and so the two of them spent many hours in the available recliners while visiting.

The Staff and Board of the Lake of the Woods District Hospital Foundation would like to thank the Community, Seasonal Residents and all those who have made 2009 a successful year for us and for the Hospital.

Insurance Professionals choose LWDHF for generous donation.

The Northwestern Ontario Insurance Professionals Association presented us with $400.00 to be put  towards much needed equipment for the Lake of the Woods District Hospital.

News Update, December 16, 2009

Thanks to the generosity of the community, we were able to raise $13,000 in ONE day!

• The Lake of the Woods Shrine club presented us with a cheque for $5000.00 which went toward 6 wheelchairs and a new treadmill for the Rehabilitation Department. The Shrine Club is a regular donor to the Foundation with many of their donations put toward the Rehabilitation Department. 
• A.K. & Company presented us with a cheque for $5000.00 as well to be used towards the purchase of important medical equipment. Allen Kobylka and his family and company are also regular donors to the Foundation, supporting us in many of our fundraising efforts. 
• The Lake of the Woods Harley Riders Association presented us with $3000.00 in memory of their friend and fellow Harley Rider, Chuck Gilbertson. The Harley Riders Association has made several donations to us, including donations towards the Opthamology Department and our CT Scan campaign.

In other news, the Tree of Life Campaign this year has raised over $25 000 to date. The hospital and the foundation are so grateful to our community and summer residents for their generosity. The tree will shine its’ brightest in time for Christmas. Watch for the star on top to be lit in the coming weeks.

Additionally, the Green Belt display has been lighting up the night for almost the whole month of December. On your drive by, check out our Sponsor board to see some of the generous companies who have helped to make the display possible. Believe it or not, it’s that time of year again. Christmas is just around the corner and the Lake of the Woods District Hospital Foundation is hoping to light up the night again with our annual Tree of Life Campaign.

Our supporters have always been very generous when it comes to out Tree of Life campaign and we hope that we can count on your continued support. There is something magical about the Christmas season that brings out the best in people and we appreciate every bit of generosity that you send our way.

A bulb can be lit for as little as a $10.00 donation. All proceeds go towards the Hospital Foundation as we continue to financially support the capital needs of your hospital, which would otherwise be unattainable. Remember a loved one by brightening the tree or contribute just because it feels good to do so.

The Lake of the Woods District Hospital Foundation is a life line between you and your hospital and the needs are ongoing. New technology ages in dog years with equipment quickly becoming obsolete as it is replaced by bigger, better, faster and necessary equipment. This equipment is necessary in order to continue to provide the quality care patients deserve and have come to expect. The daily workings of your hospital create a need to constantly maintain and improve its interior.

Your generosity has an important impact on all those who walk through the doors. We hope you are able to help us reach our goals by making our Tree of Life shine brighter than ever before.
