Tree of Life Campaign 2009
Believe it or not, it’s that time of year again. Christmas is just around the corner and the Lake of the Woods District Hospital Foundation is hoping to light up the night again with our annual Tree of Life Campaign.
Our supporters have always been very generous when it comes to out Tree of Life campaign and we hope that we can count on your continued support. There is something magical about the Christmas season that brings out the best in people and we appreciate every bit of generosity that you send our way.
A bulb can be lit for as little as a $10.00 donation. All proceeds go towards the Hospital Foundation as we continue to financially support the capital needs of your hospital, which would otherwise be unattainable. Remember a loved one by brightening the tree or contribute just because it feels good to do so.
The Lake of the Woods District Hospital Foundation is a life line between you and your hospital and the needs are ongoing. New technology ages in dog years with equipment quickly becoming obsolete as it is replaced by bigger, better, faster and necessary equipment. This equipment is necessary in order to continue to provide the quality care patients deserve and have come to expect. The daily workings of your hospital create a need to constantly maintain and improve its interior.
Your generosity has an important impact on all those who walk through the doors. We hope you are able to help us reach our goals by making our Tree of Life shine brighter than ever before.
Thank you for helping your hospital help you!

Fire Fighters Come to the Foundations Rescue
The Lake of the Woods District Hospital Foundation (LWDHF) was pleased to receive a $1,300 donation from the Kenora Professional Fire Fighters Association (KPFFA).
The donation was a direct result of ticket sales from ‘The Magic of Sam Pearce’, which was held in May with over 400 people in attendance. A total of $7786.75 has now been raised for the Hospital Foundation since the inception of this annual magic show.
The contribution will be used for the Healthy Hospital, Healthy Community campaign which has a fundraising target of $490,000. The project includes roof repairs, improvements to the communication system, surgical suite renovations and medical gas delivery upgrades. The total project has a $4.9 million dollar price tag but the Ministry of Health has approved funding for only 90% of the costs. It is up to the community to raise the remaining 10%. For every dollar generated in Kenora, $9 more is leveraged from the province. The $1,300 gift actually results in $13,000 for the hospital.
The Hospital Foundation would like to thank the Kenora Professional Fire Fighters Association for their ongoing committment.

Over $39,000 Raised at 13TH Annual Charity Golf Classic
Over 120 eager golfers from all over Canada turned out at the Kenora Golf and Country Club on July 30, 2009 to participate in the 13th Annual MNP/Hospital Foundation Charity Golf Classic in support of Lake of the Woods Disctrict Hospital Foundation. Thanks to the tremendous outpouring support through sponsorships, registrations and general donations to the event, over $39,000 was raised for the capital equipment needs of the Lake of the Woods District Hospital.
Thirty two teams hit the links on the beautiful summer day for the shotgun start at 1 pm. One particular highlight was the hole in one, garnered by Larry Karaim of Kenora, which won him a 1625 Lund Rebel KL SS boat from Woodlake Marine worth over $20,000. Although big ticket hole in one prizes are featured each year at the tournament, this was the first time that a golfer had ever hit the mark to win!
Following tournament play, the golfers participated in a shootout on Hole #9. The closest to the pin was Derek Lloyd of Calgary, Alberta, who generously donated his $1,000 prize back to the Hospital Foundation. A live auction, after a mouth watering steak dinner, generated over $4,500 for the Hospital Foundation, with amazing prizes donated by many local businessmen. Gregg Agnew followed Lloyd’s generousity by donating $840 in 50/50 winnings back to the Foundation.
This event would not have been possible without the support of all the volunteers and sponsors who generously donated their time and resources to the Hospital Foundation. The Lake of the Woods District Hospital Foundation wishes to welcome and thank first time lead sponsor MNP for their contributions as well as extend a major thank you to David Pearce, chair of the organizing committee, for his dedication and commitment to making this event possible.
