Tree of Life Campaign raises $37,835.00!
This Year’s Tree of Life Campaign has been a resounding success, raising $37,835.00 to date, surpassing our goal of $35,000! Our Grand total so far, including the work Lake of the Woods Electric, Kenora Hydro, United Rentals and Godbout’s Towing did for us and the CJRL Radio Ads is $50,770.15!
Our sincerest ‘Thanks’ go out to all of you who purchased bulbs to light up our tree. The loved ones you are remembering with these purchases are lighting up the night into the New Year.
Thanks are also due to our wonderful sponsors and Peter & Branden Chevrefils, who enabled us to display our Christmas figures on the Greenbelt.
Your generosity is amazing. We can’t do any of this without you.
All the best to you and yours in the New Year.

The Lake of the Woods District Hospital District Hospital Foundation received a $10,000 Grant from the Royal Canadian Legion, Brach #12 in Kenora. The money will be put towards a new PCR Analyzer and came at a good time, as the analyzer came in at about $10,000 more than expected.
There are many grants available to Non-Profit Organizations such as the Hospital Foundation. The Royal Canadian Legion is one of the groups that supports their community this way. Legion members support the grant and fundraising is done through Bingos and Nevada Ticket sales. The Royal Canadian Legion is a Licensed Charitable Organization who uses their funds to give back to the community. The Legion has a list of other Charitable Organizations they can donate to, and fortunately, the Hospital Foundation is one of them.
Our cause is ongoing and we truly appreciate any and all donations made to the foundation.
Thank You, Jerry Lava, Grant Burrows and all of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #12 members for selecting the Lake of the Woods District Hospital Foundation as the recipient of this Grant. We look forward to working with you again and giving back where we can.

3rd Floor Staff Grateful for New Recliner
Paula and Barry Jackson of Fort Frances, Ontario have generously donated a new reclining chair for use on the third floor.
The floor has a few recliners already and they are used for family/visitors as well as for patients who cannot sleep comfortably in a bed. Paula and Barry’s grandparents were patients on the third floor before they passed, and so the two of them spent many hours in the available recliners while visiting.

Lake of the Woods Electric, together with Kenora Hydro, Godbout Towing and United Rentals provided the Hospital Foundation with a truly generous Christmas Gift in Kind.
Glen McDougald and his crew from Lake of the Woods Electric spent over 150 man hours removing all of the old strings of lights from the tree and replaced them with new LED lights on a pulley system for easy maintenance. They also color coded the strings on 5 different switches so we’re able to light more of the tree as donations come in.
Special thanks from both Lake of the Woods Electric and the Hospital Foundation also go to United Rentals for the use of their manlift, Godbout Towing for transporting the manlift to and from the hospital and to Kenora Hydro for supplying some of the new LED lights.
We received an invoice for $11, 435.15 from Lake of the Woods Electric and a letter from Glen McDougald indicating that the entire cost of the retrofit was to be considered a donation.
From all of us at the Hospital Foundation, THANK YOU to Lake of the Woods Electric, Kenora Hydro, United Rentals and Godbout Towing for your amazing Gift. Our tree is shining extra bright this year, and once the star is lit on Christmas Eve, the whole community will be able to enjoy the full extent of the hard work these companies have put in for us.
We wish you all a safe and happy holiday and all the best in the New Year!

The Lake of the Woods District Hospital Foundation (LWDHF) was pleased to receive a $1,300 donation from the Kenora Professional Fire Fighters Association (KPFFA).
The donation was a direct result of ticket sales from ‘The Magic of Sam Pearce’, which was held in May with over 400 people in attendance. A total of $7786.75 has now been raised for the Hospital Foundation since the inception of this annual magic show.
The contribution will be used for the Healthy Hospital, Healthy Community campaign which has a fundraising target of $490,000. The project includes roof repairs, improvements to the communication system, surgical suite renovations and medical gas delivery upgrades. The total project has a $4.9 million dollar price tag but the Ministry of Health has approved funding for only 90% of the costs. It is up to the community to raise the remaining 10%. For every dollar generated in Kenora, $9 more is leveraged from the province. The $1,300 gift actually results in $13,000 for the hospital.
The Hospital Foundation would like to thank the Kenora Professional Fire Fighters Association for their ongoing committment.

Jim & Leney Richardson visited the Lake of the Woods District Hospital on August 7, 2009 to mark their generous donation of $5,000 to the Hospital Foundation for purchases towards maternity ward. The Richardsons were delighted when their son, Colton was born at the Lake of the Woods District Hospital. In a letter written to the Foundation, Mr. Richardson said that they found ‘the level of service, the level of care, and the overall warm experience delivered by the facility and staff to be above [their] expectations and well ahead of similar services delivered by hospitals elsewhere in Canada and in the United States.’
The charitable contribution from Jim & Leney will be used to purchase much needed equipment for the maternity ward including a new baby scale, electronic breast pump and electric baby blankets.
The Hospital Foundation would like to thank Jim and Leney Richardson for their generosity.
