The evening of August 13th was started off right with beautiful weather as guests arrived at the Royal Lake of the Woods Yacht Club for the 6th Annual Lifesavers Dinner & Auction.
Bob Kozminski and Nicki Douglas have outdone themselves once again, bringing fabulous people and fabulous auction items to the club for the event. These two are truly a great team.

To change things up a little, we asked Kenora’s new sushi restaurant, Sushi 251, to put together a selection of their best sushi for cocktail hour…. it was a hit, and a great precursor to a fantastic meal prepared by Chef Dan Dworschak and his team at RLWYC. With beef sponsored by Rae & Jerry’s Steakhouse in Winnipeg, Dan put together a 6-course feast including tomato basil soup with crispy pancetta, pan seared halibut with cauliflower puree & red wine vilate, stuff beef tenderloin and a delicious dessert trio.
New to the auction table this year were four vacation packages. Several of our guests bid on the opportunity to attend the America’s Cup yachting event, a Sonoma Wine Tour and a trip to attend the Masters Golf Tournament. These trips added a few thousand dollars extra to our grand total!
Total raised $107,000…
Lifesavers Dinner & Auctions have raised nearly the entire 10% commitment of LWDHF for the $4.9 million capital infrastructure project. This means that over the last six years, Lifesavers Dinner & Auctions have secured nearly $4.9 million from the government! You helped make that possible; ensuring quality medical care remains available for our families, our friends and our community.
While this project is complete, the needs of our hospital are ongoing. LWDH has identified over $3 million in capital equipment needs over the next 2 years. Unfortunately, there is not any type of matching program from the government for capital equipment. This leaves LWDHF to raise the funds dollar for dollar. We hope to have your continued support as we strive to meet the needs of our hospital.
