Nineteenth Annual General Meeting

Lake of the Woods District Hospital Foundation hosted our 19th Annual General Meeting on Thursday, June 9th at the Super 8 Minis Hall.

Each year, LWDHF hosts this meeting which is open to the public to showcase our efforts, and our community’s efforts to raise funds for capital equipment at Lake of the Woods District Hospital. This year was no different. Local dignitaries, service groups and many others were in attendance as we presented our 2010/2011 fiscal year financials, achievements and results from our various events.

This year, we said goodbye to one of our directors, Gordon Horne, who served on our board for 6 years and brought his accounting expertise and wealth of knowledge to our table. We will miss his contributions and wish him all the best.

Happily, we welcomed director Kris Tittlemier to our board. Kris sits on our Publicity committee and has a lot to offer. We look forward to his contributions around the table.

At each AGM, we recognize groups and individuals who have made major contributions to LWDHF. This year we had the pleasure of working with some wonderful, and inspirational people.

Shannon Lucas – Laughing Moon Creations for her beautiful earrings which she sold in honour of a friend currently battling Breast Cancer with all of the proceeds going to our Digital Mammography fund.

Bryce & Nicki Douglas who purchased a Harmonic Scalpel for our Operating Room. This scalpel allows for increased precision and cauterizes as it cuts along with many more benefits.

Kathleen Novak of RBC who was vital in securing a $10,000 grant from the RBC Foundation for Breast Cancer Awareness which will go to the purchase of the Digital Mammography Machine.

Linda Davidow of CIBC, who was instrumental in securing a $10,000 grant from CIBC also for Digital Mammography.

Mark Duggan & 89.5 CJRL for the incredible support through event coverage, and no-charge radio spots through the year.

Ontario Power Generation – they provide incredible support through donations each year, and purchased a new Propaq monitor for the Emergency Room this year!

Kinsmen Club of Kenora for committing to the purchase of a $35,000 colonoscope!

Century 21 Reynard Real Estate for throwing 2 great parties and raising $50,000 so far for Digital Mammography by doing so!

Qualico Headwaters – you’ve seen their name all around town because they do so much to support. Each year, we know we can count on Brian & Ruth Hastings to support our Golf Tournament with a Diamond Sponsorship.

The Dragon Tamers who have been a huge help spreading the word about Digital Mammography, as well as donating over $6000 so far to the cause.

Kenora & Lake of the Woods Regional Community Foundation

Lowery’s Basics for printing our newsletters for us twice a year and helping us out every time a printer goes down!

The Hospital Auxiliary, who raises on average, $125,000 each year for our hospital. For an entirely volunteer-based group, this is amazing!

Steve Simpkin at the Medical Centre Pharmacy, who sponsors our ‘Hospital Foundation Notes’ in the weekend paper.

Copperfin Credit Union for their iCare MasterCard program – which, based on member usage, amounts to a significant donation at the end of the year. We’ve been lucky enough to benefit from this since 2008. If you’re a member with an iCare card, please continue to use it!

Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 12. These folks have supported us for a long time. This year, they’ve made two significant donations toward the Diagnostic Imaging project.

There are so many people and organizations who donate to us regularly. We can’t thank you enough for all you allow us to do for our hospital. Thank you for helping us help our hospital help you.

I just saw your post on Facebook about wanting stories about receiving great care from the hospital. I feel compelled to tell you my great story because so often all we hear about is the negative stories.
