Proprietor Mona Bartmanovich and her team at Wind n Water Interiors in Kenora called LWDHF one day to propose the idea of a ‘Lemon Sale’ in support of Digital Mammography. The idea quickly blossomed into a huge promotion complete with lemonade stand, and a walking, talking lemon roaming the streets of Kenora to direct people over to the store. Our lemon also carried a sign which read “HONK IF YOU LOVE LEMONS!” and was well received by drivers.

The lemons for mammography idea went to the next level when we discovered www.worldwidebreastcancer.com which uses lemons to help educate women about the signs and symptoms of breast cancer, as well as the anatomy of the breast. Posters with a couple of lemons on a couch were designed pro-bono by Overdrive design then circulated, and the public was quickly engaged.
A percentage of proceeds from certain items and services at Wind n Water were donated to LWDHF and will help to purchase a Digital Mammography machine, so that women in our area will have less of a wait time to have their ‘lemons’ squeezed, and a better chance of early diagnosis, should a bad seed be found.
